User Voice Forums - need a way to generate an easily viewed list of topics in a given forum. It is hard to distribute votes when one cannot see a condensed list of topics.1 vote
This is possible right now – depending on the forum you’re working in. For the IAWG, we didn’t provide the list because there are only 35 ideas being voted on. If you would like, I could send you an extract of the data in the forum. You’d be able to see and sort all of the data, and also use it as a guide while you’re navigating the forum online.
To assist with navigating, a link to the User Voice page or UAG page could be placed on the Discussion Forum page. I get stuck in the UAG Discussion forum and have trouble finding way back to UAG page with User Voice elements.1 vote
A link to the UAG page on ASDWA.org is accessible from the top of every UAG UserVoice forum. If you happen to be in the ASDWA discussion forums, click Home in the top navigation, then look in the left side box for a direct link to the UAG page on ASDWA.org.
The UAG page on ASDWA.org has links to every site that the UAG uses. Look for the Quick Links section.
I decided not to provide linkages between the discussion forums and UserVoice directly to avoid confusion. If such links would help, I can add them. Just let me know in the comments.
Is there a benefit in converting "usernames" to "email addresses"? Given that authentication to some ASDWA-related sites is associated with a user's email address, is there a benefit to configuring ASDWA.org to do the same. At the moment, users cannot change their own usernames without causing login issues, so it could be anything. Email address would be easier to remember. Users could create a single "ASDWA password' that they used for all ASDWA-sites. Users might even be more sensitive to keeping their email information up-to-date, as it is connected to login.2 votes
We’ve flipped the switch!
If a user clicks on the link to the discussion forums that is provided at the bottom of notifications, before they visit the ASDWA site and sign in, they may get an "Authentication Error". This forces the user to log out of the site, then log back in, before they're able to reach the Forums. While this isn't so bad, once the user logs in, they are not redirected to the discussion. The system needs to 'remember' the user was requesting access to that discussion and redirect them to it after successful log-in.5 votes
Authentication was changed such that this should no longer be an issue. Users are no longer given the option to “stay logged in”, which should eliminate some of the cookie handling issues.
A request was made to make older ASDWA surveys available to the members in a searchable format. This would be a significant administrative undertaking. There is an alternative "Idea" in the forum for Using the ASDWA Discussion Forums for Member Surveys in the future. This would make future surveys searchable.3 votes
If members are not using the Forums, which are designed for member-to-member queries, which are archived automatically and can later be searched, then there’s no rational to implement an alternative system or service.
Members now have access to all ASDWA surveys via the website, although this is only a temporary solution.
Create profile pages on ASDWA.org that are linked to Role Types. A registered user would land on this page after log-in. The profile page would serve as a nexus of information available to that Role Type. For example, a user with a "slashy" Role Type [AWOP/SDWIS/UAG] would see information from all three Community sections of the site on their profile page. The idea is to eliminate the need for a user with complex site permissions to jump around the site to get all of the important information available to them.4 votes
Currently evaluating options for the layout of these pages.
ASDWA can use its cloud-based file management system to provide direct download links for software currently accessible via the ASDWA's FTP site. This would eliminate the need to manage separate credentials for logging into the FTP site and should make for a more fluid user experience.2 votes
Users who cannot access the ASDWA FTP site can request software from me directly. I can provide them with a link to download the software from ASDWA’s cloud server.
Organize outreach by channeling "one-way", "news", and "FYI" communications through ASDWA news blogs. Direct messaging [email] should be reserved for critical communications of higher importance or sensitivity.2 votes
All of our printed publications are now distributed via news blogs; including the Weekly Update [which is currently published via blog and as a standard email distro].
Most, if not all, of the dynamic information on ASDWA.org should be available via RSS. This is especially true of the "News and Events" feed on the ASDWA homepage and in Community/Committee sections of the site that have a "Recent Uploads" section. Folks should be able to receive some form of notification when information on the site changes [document uploads, page updates, new sections are created, events are added, etc].2 votes
Authentication Errors are easier to avoid if a user logs out of the system after they finish on the site. The problem is that there is no Logout option available on the Forum-side. In order to logout of the system, if a user is in the Forums, they must click on the ASDWA graphic at the top of the page to get to the ASDWA Homepage, then scroll down to the footer of the page where a Logout option exists.0 votes
There is now a link in the discussion forums that leads back to ASDWA.org’s login page…allowing a user to logout of the site easily.
