Use the ASDWA Discussion Forums for Member Surveys
The new model would work like this:
- A Member posts "Question to States" to the ASDWA Discussion Forums. This action triggers a notification to the entire membership, who is automatically sent a copy of the Question via email or RSS.
- The membership can then provide input via the ASDWA Discussion Forums.
- The discussion is archived and searchable.
There are a number of advantages of using the discussion forums for member-to-member communications. In a recent example, a few members were bouncing emails back and forth for about a week trying to find an answer to a problem they were having. I recommended they try using the Discussion Forums to pose the question to the broader community. Within minutes the original poster had responses and was able to move on with their project.
...wait weeks for responses to questions that cannot be easily archived or searched? Or, get immediate feedback via a platform that automatically distributes, archives and indexes the information for search?

this is a great idea, however having it in the ASDWA Forum will reduce participation by some states and its best to get the surveys out via email (as done currently). It is much easier to respond to an email than it is to navigate the forum.
